The 84th Annual Academy Awards (or The Oscars, to us common folk)

After sifting through the barrage of Oscars red-carpet photos, I have come to the conclusion that I'm not particularly enamoured with any of the dresses that were worn last night. Don't get me wrong, there were some beautiful ensembles: Rooney Mara in Givenchy (I officially have a new girl crush), Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli, Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford, Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen (see below), to name a few.

However, as expected from these types of event, there was some fantastic photography which in a way, outshone both the outfits and the celebrities themselves. These three, of Rooney Mara, Lily Collins and Gwyneth Paltrow in a gorgeous Tom Ford dress, are particularly beautiful.

There's something about a great landscape 'behind-the-scenes' photo that is completely irresistible; the dresses and the celebrities all become irrelevant. Quite ironic when you consider that the subjects in each of these photo's are judged for the way they look and the way they dress instead of for the quality of their acting, no?

What are your thoughts on the Oscars? I don't even know who won what, and to be really honest, I'm not that bothered...

Nothing like a bit of Frabbey

I'm supposed to be writing my dissertation but what better way to procrastinate than the wonder that is: Frabbey.

I can't even begin to explain how much I love this - they're just so god damn cute! I seem to forget that models/designers are actually real people with real feelings so it's always nice to see a bit of love.

 If you're a regular you'll know that Abbey Lee can do no wrong in my eyes an so naturally, I completely adore the new Tom Ford eyewear campaign... 

How amazing does she look? First Freja and now Abbey - oh Mr Ford, how you spoil us. What do you think of Abbey's latest campaign (and hair, I can't keep up!) and who is your fave babe, Abbey or Freja?

Milan?

I'm usually blown away by the big-kids when it comes to Milan Fashion Week. However, I'm really not that excited by their offerings for AW10/11.

There have been a few - Prada, Gucci, Pucci, Jil Sander - which I've really liked, but everyone just seems to be playing it safe. Being super short (apparently I'm 5"1), wearing trousers is pretty much an art form that I rarely get right; therefore I'm reluctant to like several of the collections.

Aside from the trousers, there were some really nice design elements at Gucci. The coats were just to-die-for - I'm usually a scruffy old jacket type but Frida Giannini made me yearn for something a bit more classy. I also really loved the feather/leather details; very Tom Ford's Gucci in the 90's.

Of course my penchant for mini-dresses is the reason I loved Pucci AW10/11 and it helps that the colours and pattern is gorgeous too. I can see all of these on the red carpet and boy, that fur is beyond amazing.

Have there been any collections that disappointed you this season? I know we're in the middle of a recession and all, but AW just hasn't captured my imagination as much as SS did...

A Single Man

I can't WAIT to see this!

I love Colin Firth (in a father-daughter sort of way) so I'm really excited about this hot collab with Tom Ford. It's about George, an English university proffessor (Firth) who loses his long-term partner (Matthew Goode) in a car crash. It's Ford's directorial debut and he's definately beginning with a bang; Julianne Moore and Nicholas Hault are simply the icing on the cake.

Tom Ford's creative genious + compelling 'meaning of life' tale surrounding a gay proffessor in the early 60s = cinematic heaven. These photo's alone, show how beautiful the film will be.

" A SINGLE MAN is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherant part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life."
