New York Fashion Week: Marc Jacobs FW12

Whilst at a birthday party this weekend, a friend of mine turned up wearing an oversized, red woollen jacket and what can only be described as a floppy, misshapen top hat. Eyebrows were raised at her dubious choice of head-wear; little did we know that she was one step ahead of us all. Enter Mr. Marc Jacobs.

There's no denying that Marc Jacobs is an absolute genius and although (initially) I was a little perplexed looking through his Fall/Winter 2012 collection, it's clear that he has once again created a masterpiece. Rhinestone encrusted pilgrim shoes, giant knitted scarves (complete with giant safety-pin), paisley prints, floral prints, leather panels, fur panels, buttoned wool stoles, tulip skirts with padded hips, metallic jackets, geometric knitwear and to coin a term from the brilliant Coco's Tea Party, Stephen Jones' 'Jamiroquai' mink hats. Jacobs' had it all.

And yet, in spite of the mish-mash of different pieces, the collection is extremely coherent, typically stylish, wearable and in true Jacobs style, desirable. On paper it shouldn't work and at first sight it's all rather overpowering but when you look closely at the finer details you see a fantastic collection bursting with Jacobs' inimitable creative touch. The witty use of colour and the unlikely combination of textures are central to the success of this collection, cementing the knowledge that Jacobs' truly is an outstanding designer.

I think you'd agree that that's enough shameless flattery/arse-licking for one day (though I am desperate to try out the ankle socks, printed midi-skirt, contrasting geometric knitwear and oversized woollen stole combination). New York Fashion Week: Karen Walker, Preen AW12

This time last year I raved about Preen and Karen Walker's Fall/Winter collections and now I intend to rave some more. Last year, Walker's collection was inspired by Britain's Northern Soul scene and featured great prints, styles and a clever use of vinyl; this time around, she was inspired by Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea where boxy-woollen coats and paisley-print Chelsea boots took precedence.

Reworking her signature tomboyish aesthetic with bold colour-blocking and interesting prints, Walker's mod-influenced collection is bang on the money for Fall/Winter 2012. Cropped slimline trousers and boxy single-breasted jackets are clearly going to be huge for Winter; Walker's tartan and orange versions are especially lovely, don't you think? She used a lot of orange and yellow last year and I really love this season's interpretation, particularly when worn as a colour-flash statement under more subdued pieces.

There's something about Preen's collections that is effortlessly classy and elegant, without being stuffy or outdated. For one thing, the styling is flawless and more importantly, the clothes are always outstanding.

For Fall/Winter 2012, Preen took inspiration from Beatrix Potter alongside notions of the strong, independent modern day woman. The end result was a striking balance of intricate botanical prints and bold, geometric shapes with a contemporary 'girl power' edge. These are the kind of clothes that women in power wear, women who mean business; they're not for your everyday Jane but for someone who know's what they want and how to get it. Although not realistically practical, the suede and lace platform heels will undoubtedly appear on 'must-have' lists everywhere come the end of Summer whilst a million and one geometric-colour block suits pop-up on the high-street. Ground-breaking? No. Desirable? Completely.

Will you be investing in a boxy-woollen coat and cropped geometric trousers or botanical florals at all? I am definitely taken with Walker's collection and can totally see myself buying a single-breasted jacket, they're all over the catwalk's this season and are super versatile.

Elle Style Awards 2012: Best and Worst Dressed

New York Fashion Week, the BAFTA's, the Grammy's and now the Elle Style Awards. Is anyone else completely overwhelmed by the amount of events that have taken place this week?! As much as I want to harp on about how I'm obsessed with several NYFW collections, I'll start with the Elle Style Awards which took place last night. It's a little baffling that some people turn up to the red-carpet, for an event based solely on style and fashion, looking insanely boring. And yet it always happens. I'll start with some of the best-dressed of the evening and although it's not properly Spring yet, florals have already made quite an impression on the red-carpet.

Florence Welch rarely puts a foot wrong when it comes to red-carpet dressing and this midi-length floral Erdem number looks great on her. Her posture is pretty terrible here which gives the whole look a dodgy granny vibe but otherwise I would say this is the perfect look for her. I attended one of Mary Katrantzou's first shows at the LFW Topshop space back in 2009 and thought her designs were fantastic from the beginning. Poppy Delevigne looks consistently beautiful and this Mary Katrantzou for Topshop dress is stunning on her - forget the cute and quirky print, look at those legs! If anyone else has watched Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model then you'll know just how irritating judge Julien Macdonald is. However, to his credit, he knows how to make a show-stopping red-carpet dress, worn here by Tali Lennox. Only an uber-confident (and toned) woman could wear this dress and Tali pulls it off brilliantly, if you've got it, flaunt it. Right?

Now, on to the not so fantastic. The thing that most annoys me about these dresses is that they are all gorgeous in their own right: they just haven't been worn properly. This might sound strange, but so many potentially great outfits are ruined by bad posture, opaque tights and strange accessories.

As head designer at Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton has no excuse not to be impeccably dressed. With that in mind, this black-velvet knee-length number is doing nothing for me; granted her choice of shoe is spot-on but otherwise this outfit is extremely average. I have no idea who Laura Carmichael is but everything about this stunning embellished Christopher Kane dress is wrong for her; had she stood with more confidence, ditched the clutch and given the good ol' 'hand on the hip' pose a whirl she probably would have look great. Sadly, she just looks incredibly awkward and out of place, sorry Laura! I don't even know where to begin with Hayley Atwell: the black opaque tights, the ankle boots, the hair, the earrings - what was she thinking?! It's almost as if she raided Debenhams and then forgot how to dress herself. If she'd have lost the earrings, clutch, tights and boots this might have stood a chance at being a half-decent outfit.

There's never any telling which celebrities will get it right and which ones will get it wrong but good posture and confidence never fails to make someone look great. What do you think of these outfits and how would you have styled them?

Orange BAFTA Film Awards 2012: Best Dressed

This morning I had to debate with myself about which major event to post about: the BAFTA's or the Grammy's which both took place last night. I decided to go with the BAFTA's mainly because I actually watched it and secondly because, well it's British! I start a new and very exciting job today (yay!) so have only had time to skim the surface of the red carpet dresses - I'm way too fussy to actually be impressed with more than a couple of people but I love what Fearne Cotton and Tilda Swinton wore.

Both ladies opted for maxi-numbers which, given how cold it's been recently, was probably more of a practical move than a stylish one. Regardless, Tilda looked flawless in this super fresh Celine dress whilst Fearne rocked a peachy little Moschino number. Tilda is one of those women that could literally wear dog crap and still look amazing; she just oozes confidence and as a result consistently looks immaculate.

I could never really be a red-carpet stylist (or any sort of stylist) because I'd probably try and make people wear something that's closer to my personal style than theirs. I didn't really like many of the other dresses for that exact reason: would I wear it? No. Then I don't like it. Anyway, could you be a red-carpet stylist and who were your best dressed? New York Fashion Week: The Prints Prevail

Yesterday I said that Alexander Wang was one of the American designers I was most looking forward to showing at New York Fashion Week and having taken one look at his Fall/Winter 2012 collection, this may have been a mistake.

It wasn't terrible, it just wasn't exactly interesting. Besides some classic Wang tailoring, the fabrics and shapes looked quite clunky and unless you're of model proportions, shapeless jumpers reminiscent of smelly wetsuits just ain't gonna work. Maybe it'll grow on me, who knows, but Alexander Wang Fall/Winter 2012 hasn't quite hit the mark or the standards we've become accustomed to.

Yesterday I said how my fear of colour restricts me to a uniform of black during the winter months but that might be about to change. Enter Band of Outsiders, Christian Cota and Mara Hoffman and their colourful, outdoorsy, printed collections.

These collections probably instil the fear of God in anyone with an aversion to colour but they're so chic and well-styled it's almost impossible not to like them. Floaty peasant dresses were given sheer sex appeal and slouchy printed harem-pants were teamed with super-bright blazers at Band of Outsiders; their men's collections are always great so it'd be hard not the love the women's too. Fur is always a massive trend for Fall/Winter and my favourite variation this season has got to be the long-line waistcoat also seen at Christian Cota. His ethnic inspired collection made me want to travel back to the 70s and explore South America; it seems the printed trouser is fast becoming a serious contender for the most popular trend this season. Everything about Mara Hoffman's collection is doing it for me: the hats, the snoods, the prints, the shapes. Everything. The printed trouser and white shirt combination has to be my favourite look so far - you can just tell that over the coming weeks, there'll be a million and one variations.

I never thought I would favour bright prints over classic monochrome shapes but these collections are undeniably wonderful. I absolutely fell in love with the leather body-harnesses at Hervé Léger by Max Azria (see below) so have my fingers crossed that the high-street is taking note. How amazing would they look over a sheer vest or a contrasting body-con dress?

Past, Present and Future: Alexander Wang

There are a select handful of designers whose collections I genuinely get excited about each season and Alexander Wang is one of them. His ingenious ability to give sport-luxe commercial appeal, his extraordinarily collectable accessories (I defy you to attend a fashion show where a Rocco/Diego isn't present) and his beautifully deconstructed take on tailoring make him one of the best designers in America right now. If you haven't already guessed, I'm quite a fan.

In anticipation of his Fall/Winter 2012 collection which is showing later today, I have put together my two favourite ready-to-wear looks from 2009 to the present day. Think of it as an homage, if you will.

Wang's Fall/Winter collection from 2009 is still my favourite of his - I distinctly remember the biker boot/cycling short revolution that followed and, along with thousands of others, promised myself that I would one day own a Diego.

There wasn't a girl in the fashion-world that didn't covet a side-plait/develop a sudden interest in American Football after seeing Wang's Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

Everything about Wang's Fall/Winter 2010 collection was slightly odd. The flares, the slicked-down hair, the mish-mash of textures and the unusual styling technically shouldn't have worked together but they did. Harmoniously.

I don't like white. I especially don't like metallic pastel colours. I do, however, love Wang's take on them both for Spring/Summer 2011 (he really can do no wrong in my eyes).

My second favourite collection, Fall/Winter 2011 spurred the masses onto wearing knitwear with a silk maxi-dress on nights out. Sexy and practical, what's not to love?

Wang's Spring/Summer 2012 offering is probably my least favourite of the bunch, maybe my fear of pale-colours is preventing me from loving this collection as much as the others? Regardless, it's still undeniably great and I have faith that for Fall/Winter 2012, he'll produce something marvellous.

After years of hard-graft, I am now the proud owner of Wang's infamous Diego bucket-bag and unashamedly parade around town with it, just because I can. Is there an item of clothing, or an accessory that you one day hope to own?

New York Fashion Week: Helmut Lang AW12

Some of you may (or may not) know that last September I moved to New York for 3 months. Everyone kept telling me it was like London, only bigger; however, geographical differences aside, it's nothing like London. I could write a list as long as my arm citing the disparities: fashion, lifestyle, night-life - where do you start? During my first week there, I was lucky enough to attend a show during New York Fashion Week and it was there that I noticed a massive contrast in clothing and personal style. See, New Yorker's are very chic and more often that not, live in a uniform of black whilst rarely venturing into the world of colour. I, for one, can appreciate this apprehension of wearing colour because it scares me; what if it clashes with my hair? Do I have to co-ordinate it with my nail-varnish? The potential colour predicaments are endless.

Anyway, what does any of this have to do with Helmut Lang? Technically, New York Fashion Week and I should be the best of friends but to be entirely truthful, I usually find it excruciatingly boring. There's rarely any 'oomph' (for want of a better word) and I'm usually disappointed, even more so after having fallen in love with the city. So far this season it's been true to form and the only people I'm vaguely excited about are yet to show. With its monochrome palette, structured tailoring, luxury fabrics and clever styling Helmut Lang has thus far been my favourite show.

I'll be the first to admit that there's nothing new here: over the knee boots, cobwebby knits, funnel-neck leather jackets and leather trousers are all far from cutting edge. What I do love though is the simplicity and wearability of the collection - it is neither generic nor high-fashion and therefore suits me just fine. In my opinion, this is the best collection out of a bad bunch which is such a shame as New York has so much to offer. I know it isn't notorious for avant-garde and unwearable fashions but it would be nice to see something unique and original come out of NYFW this season, let's hope the best is still to come!

Coming out of hibernation...

It's been a while since I last blogged, 6 months in fact. This comes down to a multitude of factors (moving to New York, not having enough time/interesting content - the usual suspects) and now feels like the perfect time to rejuvenate and completely reinvent Bang Bang You're Dead: although the situation is entirely boring and demoralising, not having a job has given me the freedom to write on a daily basis again. This is good.

I wanted my first post to be massively entertaining and exciting but any notion of that clearly went out of the window when I realised I didn't actually have anything interesting to say. I'm hoping that something comes to me by tomorrow because I promised myself that I'd write everyday; I wouldn't want to bore you again with another 'I'm coming out' post so fingers crossed.

Until tomorrow, I'm constantly (somewhat obsessively) updating my Tumblr and regularly Tweeting about other useless stuff like eBay and U.F.O's so check them out, if you fancy. I'll get to work on the layout of Bang Bang You're Dead because it's looking fairly boring and crap, stay tuned!

London's Burning

If you've been paying any attention to the news over the last couple of days then you'll know that London is currently in a state of chaos. At the end of last week, a man was shot by the police in Tottenham, north London. There is a fair bit of mystery surrounding the incident and as a result, riots erupted culminating in the destruction of several homes and businesses. Over the weekend, more riots started in Brixton and then yesterday spread across the capital hitting: Hackney, Peckham, Deptford, Camden, Ealing as well as other parts of the country entirely. This behaviour is absolute insanity and is representative of a very small minority of London, mainly youths with too much time on their hands. Sadly, these events make me feel very ashamed to be British - especially as a nation that so arrogantly assumes control in other countries.

Let us hope that these mindless yobs get their just-deserts (optimistic, given that our Prime Minister waited the entire weekend to come back from his trip to Italy, how noble). As one of my friends put it, "these guys are destroying their own ends! How long will it take for the realisation to set in?". Hopefully the madness won't continue for a third night...

The Kids Are Alright...

On Friday, I was invited to don my wellies and attend the Underage Festival in East London, courtesy of Claire's Accessories. Although I'm definitely not underage (the festival is only open to 13-17 year olds) I went along to check out a few bands and get style-envy from some of the girls there; seriously, when I was that age I was so un-stylish it's not even funny - these girls are really on it! I didn't have the chance to go to any other festivals this year so I was actually rather excited (despite being about 4 years too old).

They had everything on site that a regular festival would have (although I think they slightly underestimated their target age with a mini-carousel) but Claire's really upped their game and whacked a styling caravan in for good measure. Now, I haven't set foot in a Claire's Accessories for years, but after visiting the store and checking out the quirky little style-mobile, I have to admit I'm rather impressed.

The lovely Amy from Wolf Whistle and myself we're well on the obligatory festival uniform of hair-plaiting/face-painting that took place in Claire's caravan; I mean, when else is it acceptable to regress 15 years and actually have an excuse for drawing a butterfly on your face? Some ass nicked my favourite pair of vintage sunnies (sorry mum) from the VIP area so the Claire's girls came to my rescue with the bad-boys from the middle picture - how fun are they??

I only really saw a couple of bands (including an intriguing trio whose lyrics "she must be a lesbian" made us all cringe/laugh quite a bit) but the day was massively fun either way. Sadly, the sunnies aren't available on the Claire's Accessories website so I've pulled 3 of my favourite things instead, what do you think?

What has been your favourite festival style this year? Mine was (and probably always will be) the whole crop-top/denim cut-offs/Dr. Martens and coloured hair look - it never fails! On to other news, I paid for my apartment in Williamsburg today so if anyone has any 'must-see' tips for when I'm in New York then please share!

Pretty in Pink

Katy Perry is one of those celebs I just can't get my head around; sometimes I think she's really great (her music definitely falls into the so-bad-it's-good category) but then others times I think she's a right idiot (the whole comment about Lady Gaga being blasphemous in her Alejandro video is a bit rich coming from someone who 'kissed a girl and liked it'). Anyway, recently, she's kind of just fallen off my radar - until I saw this photo...

And so, Katy Perry has jumped on the crazy-hair-colour-bandwagon and is currently sporting this washed out pink look. If you've been anywhere trendy recently (East London/Williamsburg/Berlin - you get the picture) then you'll already know that coloured hair is so last season; however, I'll give Katy brownie points for trying because I actually think it really suits her.

Having coloured hair is great (mine is currently red, original I know) until you realise how much maintenance it requires. Obviously, this isn't an issue for the super-rich but for the rest of us, well, we can't all afford to go to the salon every time we have a fading dilemma. My advice then, is to invest in bright accessories that you can wear without fear of staining your white top every time it rains. Here, ladies and possibly gents, are some fun pink things to stop you from doing a Katy the next time you get bored...

It's fair to say that colour-blocking isn't going anywhere fast so mix-and-match for the best 'end of Summer' looks. For something a bit tougher, I'm absolutely obsessed with these adorable pink Dr.Martens - how great would they look with lacy white socks and denim cut-offs??

Not so long ago I mentioned that I had some very exciting news and so, on the 4th September I'm moving across the pond to New York to build up my CV within the big bad world of PR; I'll try and blog when I'm out there so keep checking back! LOVEstruck

LOVE is one of those magazines that I find so hit and miss (along with Wonderland, Indie, Dazed and Confused...) but their AW11/12 issue actually looks really good. I sound surprised only because previous issues have featured the likes of Justin Bieber which lets face it, is never going to be the most exciting of reads. In true LOVE style, they've gone all out and created a load of covers, of which Elle Fanning's is definitely my favourite.

Now, I don't actually know anything about Elle other than she's the younger sister of Dakota Fanning and that she's another teen-actress (did someone say pushy parents??) but this cover shot by Mert and Marcus is really rather charming, don't you think? I've previously harped on about how I hate seeing celebs on the cover of magazines all the time but maybe I can make an exception for up-and-coming actresses... The other covers do in fact feature models (Lara Stone included) but this was, for me personally, the standout.

As well as having several covers (eight, to be precise), the issue has some stunning editorials - I didn't want to post about each and every one purely because I want to actually see them in the magazine first (I'm a proper magazine hoarder, fellow collectors will understand). However, I figured I'd share a couple of images from Super Natural featuring Lara, Kristen McMenamy, Daphne Groeneveld, Mariacarla Boscono and Nyasha Matonhodze.

Until I actually pick up a copy I won't hazard a guess as to why everyone is crying in this issue, I'm sure there's some deep and meaningful/political/social reason...It's been a while since I've actually looked forward to buying a magazine and whilst I never expected to get excited about LOVE, I'm pleasantly surprised. What do you all think and has anyone actually looked at it yet?

Friends with Benefits...

I'm not going to lie, until I saw Black Swan I didn't have a girl crush on Mila Kunis. In fact, I couldn't even pronounce her name properly. However, us girls are fickle creatures and as soon as I saw her being a total babe getting down and dirty with Natalie Portman (I'm not a lesbian, but she is a hotty) my new girl crush was born. Since then, I've been really looking forward to all things Mila related and Friends with Benefits, despite my rom-com induced nausea, actually looks quite good; plus Justin Timberlake in it and he's pretty cute. This photo, shot by Carter Smith and taken from the August Issue of US Elle, perfectly sums up the whole 'relationship' fiasco that comes about from the slightly dodgy, friend + sex territory.

I for one was hoping that the rumours about Mila and Justin hooking up were true because aren't they just the cutest couple? I thought I'd stick to a film related post because I'm going to see Harry Potter at the IMAX at midnight tonight and I'm insanely excited. Is anyone else seeing Harry Potter this evening or am I the only one? What do you think of Mila and Justin as a couple; they'd definitely take over Brad and Angelina's hotspot as Hollywood's cutest couple...

Summer Lovin' with Jacques

I don't know about you but when it comes to Summer, I go a little bit crazy for a drink or two; nothing beats finishing work then heading over to the pub for a cheeky bevvy. That said, I've slightly exhausted the whole beer thing (spirits and me don't mix particularly well and wine makes me loco) which leaves little in the way of yummy drinks; Jacques, however, knows the way to a girls heart.

Give me a fruity, iced (alcoholic, of course) cider and a dressing up box - complete with in-house Beauty Parlour - and I'm one seriously happy bunny. The Jacques Townhouse, a vintage frock and fruity cider haven, is back again this Summer for a limited time from the 19th to the 28th of July and I seriously recommend you pop down for a visit.

This year, the Jacques Townhouse has a variety of cutesy features from the aforementioned Beauty Parlour to a vintage dressing up box and even an Enchanted Garden where you can get a massage and drink all at the same time; sounds perfect, no? To secure an invite head over to their Facebook page - the venue is being kept a secret until places are registered so get over there now!

Couture?

Haute Couture is often considered the pinnacle of fashion; it represents excess, elitism and craftsmanship more so than even the (not so) modest ready-to-wear collections. At least, that's what I thought. Obviously, the majority of us would never be able to afford a couture gown (unless we married into royalty) but to me, it always used to represent something completely unobtainable. It's a symbol of wealth - the fashion houses are never going to make a profit from couture collections because only the richest of the rich can afford to buy them and even then they probably would commission bespoke, one-off pieces anyway. With this is mind, couture should be the most ridiculous and excessive show of fashion, not a sombre and boring display of mindless expense.

As you have probably gathered, I'm thus far entirely unimpressed by Couture Fall 2011....

Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel all showed collections as dry as Ghandi's flip-flop - ok so there were a few good looks but on the whole, each designer didn't exactly pull it out of the bag. Last season, I was equally as uninspired, maybe I've got the whole idea of couture wrong? Regardless, I was really quite disappointed by all three - especially given that the ready-to-wear collections are usually so brilliant. Dior was interesting as it was the first show without Galliano at the helm and sadly, it was really quite obvious; it all felt very amateur and lacked that great sense of Galliano decadence.

The only collections that I liked so far have been long-term couture favourites: Givenchy and Elie Saab. Last season, I would have died for every single Elie Saab dress because they were all absolutely stunning and Givenchy, well, Riccardo Tisci is just a God, no? This season both collections felt very 'high fashion wedding' but they were gorgeous nonetheless...

Tisci can do absolutely no wrong in my eyes - every collection from the past year has been nothing short of amazing and although Fall 2011 is quite similar to last season, I still love it.

I know I went off on quite a tangeant but I just don't feel as though Couture is anything to get excited about anyone, is anyone else of the same viewpoint or I am just being slightly ridiculous? What has been your favourite Fall 2011 Couture collection so far?

It's official, silver is definitely having a moment. Last week I suggested that of all the metallic colours currently on the market, silver was the best and most user-friendly bet. It's been a while since I've seen anything with Lara Stone in - probably because I dropped off the blogosphere for a while - but this cover for Vogue Russia's July issue, although nothing particularly special, is really quite wonderful.

In a way it's quite morbid but I think it's really striking - you don't often see Vogue completely simplifying their covers but it makes a nice change. Lara also looks different - I'm not sure if its just the lipstick (and I hate to say this) but she kind of resembles newcomer Lindsey Wixon - or maybe that's just me?

I've always said that international editions of Vogue are much more interesting looking than the American and British verions - Korea always have something different going on. I think this is a really good direction for Vogue and its nice to not be inundated with some boring celebrity life-story, wouldn't you agree?

From Hermione to Emma

If, like myself, you are a massive Harry Potter fan (considering the films as the pinnacle of your fandom doesn't count) and read the books when they first came out then you may agree with me when I say that the on-screen Hermione was nothing like I imagined. Partly because I was expecting some bushy-haired, buck-toothed geek not some pretty girl with about as much frizz as a Crufts show dog. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I think Emma Watson has proved herself to be one of the best young British actresses to emerge from the franchise, despite my initial casting disapproval.

With the last Harry Potter film fast approaching (I'm going to the midnight release here in London, literally can't wait), it's going to be the end of an era for Emma/Hermione. I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say here other than I hope she continues acting (possibly in some obscure indie films) and doesn't fly off the radar/do a LiLo. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that us Brits don't generally 'do' the whole drugs/DUI/sex-tape scandal/rehab thing (Amy Winehouse is the exception, obvs) and Emma seems pretty grounded, no?

Has anyone else booked their tickets to The Deathly Hallows Part 2? I'm mind-numbingly bored so please excuse the less than interesting post (I just wanted an excuse to share these beautiful photos with you)!

Don't worry, I'm not going to go all comic geek on you (google Silver Fox if you're a little baffled), instead, after my somewhat prolonged absence from the world of blogging I decided to get back into the swing of things with a rather beautiful photo of Ashley Smith. If you've read Bang Bang You're Dead before, you'll know I became kind of obsessed with Ashley about this time last year and I'm still fascinated.

I know Ashley splits opinion across the board - I've even heard people say she's too big/short, but I think she's gorgeous and am glad to see she's still going strong in fashion. This photo is from Muse Magazine's summer issue and although I'm still not 100% on the whole metallic thing, I think this editorial is stunning.

Now, I wouldn't usually condone the wearing of metallic jackets, or anything metallic for that matter, but having scoured the internet I have come to the conclusion that it isn't actually so bad - well, silver isn't anyway. These 3 bags are as far as I'd go with the trend (I'm still stuck in a colour rut) so I'm kind of intrigued how everyone else would do it? Accessories are always the cheats way out but unless you want to look like some dodgy 80s throwback, then it's probably also the safest.

I know the photos are rather terrible but I was so excited about seeing everyone that my photography skills went right out the window. J-Lo stepped out of a car right infront of where we were stood which was massively exciting and seeing Caleb Followill about 6ft away is enough to induce a Kings of Leon hysteria in anyone, let alone a Followill fan!

Whilst I was in New York I also had the chance to visit the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art which was so incredible words wouldn't do it justice. I've never been so emotionally overwhelmed by an exhibition before; seeing all of the late McQueen's most astounding work brought together in one place was just fantastic. I really recommend you go visit if you get the chance because it was just beautiful.

I should have more time to blog again now as my latest project Fred (a new men's magazine) has finished for the time being. What did you think of the Met Gala dresses?

I don't know what's come over me this evening; I can hear my next door neighbours at it like rabbits which is never fun and I have a horrendous amount of work to do this coming week. Anyway, I'm a bit of an Ashley Smith fan and have been for quite a while now (the most searched phrase that linked my blog on Google was 'Ashley Smith's boobs' for a good few months) and I absolutely adore this photo from the Opening Ceremony Fall 2011 lookbook...

She's stunning, right? The aforementioned work that I have this week includes a menswear photo shoot which I'm styling on Wednesday. I'm terrified because I've never done anything like this before so any hints and tips would be fab!

Kate Winslet is Smokin'

We Brits love a quintessential English Rose and we pride ourselves on having Kate Winslet to our name; she's beautiful, talented, personable and is just generally someone you'd like to be friends with. Admittedly this photo is a little high-def for my liking but how incredible does Kate look at the première of her mini-series Mildred Pierce?!

I think the drastic haircut has completely changed the way I look at Kate because she's suddenly turned into a complete foxy mumma. Ok so she's not the youngest or prettiest British actress but she know's how to carry herself and is totally confident on the red carpet which in itself is massively inspiring.

I also love how she opted for an asymmetrical bodycon Stella McCartney dress - it really flatters her figure and makes her boobs look great too. I know she's only in her mid-30's and I'm talking about her as if she's some old haggard lady but in a world where its a case of 'the younger the better' its really refreshing to see someone a little bit older flaunting it, right?

If I had to chose another look for Kate for Stella's AW11 collection, this is what I would have picked:

She can definitely pull off a plunging neckline and I absolutely adored the sheer spotty sleeves but I would have given her a sexy pencil skirt instead of the velvet number. Kate has an enviable skin-tone that looks great in every colour but I do love a little black dress.

She's Got A Ticket To Ride

Emma Roberts is one of those actresses that I wrote off as soon as I saw her in Unfabulous. She doesn't exactly have a great track record when it comes to films (remember that awful mermaid one or the time she played a spoilt brat sent to boarding school?) and she never struck me as talented an actress as Dakota Fanning, lets say. With that in mind, the girl does a great editorial. These images, from US Elle's April Issue, are really something else - she looks absolutely amazing and I'm more than partial to the odd stud or two.

Ok so the girl isn't the best actress we've ever seen but who needs skills when you look this good?! It kind of makes you wonder how much influence her oh-so-famous aunty has on her career because I'm almost certain that without that sort of family tie, she wouldn't be in Elle looking this great.

Maybe she just needs time to grow up and mature as an actress but until she improves, I'm more than happy to see these sorts of editorials. Does anyone else think that having a famous family member in the business contributes to success? What do you think of Emma?

Spotlight: Mary-Kate & Ashley

This is the first time anyone has made the Spotlight twice but Mary-Kate and Ashley more than deserve it for these insanely beautiful outfits at the CFDA Awards Announcement party on Wednesday.

I love that the girls have gone back to what they know best: classic tailoring offset by monochrome minimalism. I completely adore Mary-Kate's black outfit and she has definitely become my favourite twin in terms of fashion. Ashley looks impeccable as always but her style is just a little too polished for me personally - although she never ever looks bad.

I love that the girls have emerged from their teen-bop acting days to become wonderful fashion designers - everyone is always complaining about the lack of candids but they are designers, not celebrities any more and I completely respect their dedication to their jobs.

Is anyone else as taken with the twins as me? And what do you think of this snap, they definitely look better than they have in recent months, no?

Today has been really rather great. I photographed handsome boys around London all day for a project I'm working on at the moment and was then treated to some brand new Levi's. If you've read my blog before, you'll know that I'm a massive Levi's fan - until the Curve ID came out I always struggled to find a pair of jeans that actually fit properly. Today I got the Curve (my second pair - they're that good) in a lighter shade that are perfect for spring and I'm literally in love.

On to other things I love, Freja Beha Erichsen has been photographed by the wonderful Karl Lagerfeld for Numero magazine and I can't get enough of the editorial (also featuring Arizona Muse), who else could look this beautifully androgynous?

I'm not sure if Freja has actually cut her hair or not but she still looks stunning either way. There are few models that I really get excited about but I don't think Freja will ever get boring - her face, her movement and her style are all so intriguing. I've not really had the chance to post daily which is a bit shit but I'll try and keep on top of things as best I can!

What are your favourite jeans? I'll try and do an outfit post (there's a first time for everything) with my new wares, if you haven't tried the Curve ID I really recommend you do - especially if you have Jean traumas too!

ANTM: and the winner is...

If, like me, you have been watching cycle 15 of America's Next Top Model on Living TV (in the UK) then you might not know who won yet. I say might because I haven't watched it for a while and am not sure if they've announced who's 'gonna be on top', so to speak. Anyway, if they haven't told you, DO NOT scroll down. You'll only hate me for it...

If you're in America this is very old news but I only found out that Ann won when I accidentally stumbled across this editorial (although I can't say I'm all that pleased she won). Maybe I just didn't get the whole 'tall' thing as much as the judges - she never really seemed to actually try which I think is what annoyed me. In a similar way, so many girls from other cycles were picked up on for their weight and I don't once recall Tyra asking her if she 'had a problem' - her thinness is hardly an advocate for the healthy CoverGirl image.

Either way, I think this editorial from Vogue Italia is nice. It's not ground-breaking and it doesn't make me want to stick it all over my walls but I'm not going to say it's bad. What do you think of Ann winning Cycle 15 of America's Next Top Model? I really wanted Chelsey to win - she was so god damn stunning!

See! If I was on the panel she would have won because I think she is so beautiful - the gap in the teeth was definitely a good move too. Who was your favourite from Cycle 15?

Levi's Craft of Music with Rox and Joy Formidable

Last night I was invited to the first ever Levi's Craft of Music event, an intimate gig at the flagship store on Regent Street with Rox and Joy Formidable. I'd not previously heard of either of these bands and so didn't really know what to expect; I'm not really in a position to write a really great music review (my favourite artist at the moment is Rihanna) but I can tell you that it was a superb evening.

This lovely lady is Rox and from last nights show it's safe to say that she has an absolutely phenomenal voice. I really rated her live acoustic performance of My Baby Left Me, her voice is so soulful and powerful - definitely one to watch this year!

Another band that I had never heard of before were Joy Formidable and they turned out to be an absolutely hilarious trio from North Wales. They're also super talented and we had a good little dance along to their hits (even though the crowd were a little lacklustre at times).

We got the chance to ask the musicians some questions after they'd played although after a few beers, I wasn't really in the thinking mood and left the hardcore fans to it. My best friend and I thoroughly enjoyed both Rox and Joy Formidable and had a great evening out; it's rare that you get to hear such amazing voices in such an intimate setting - it made us both want to be at a festival with a cold glass of cider!

I'd really recommend you check them both out, Rox was especially brilliant and with a voice like hers she's bound to go far.

Paris Fashion Week: Givenchy AW11

There is literally nothing that I don't like about Givenchy this season. Riccardo Tisci is such a fantastic designer and this collection tapped into everything I love; the sheer layering, the gaudi prints, the cutesy hats - it was all amazing. It felt quite East London to me in the sense that it was busy without being fussy and it was very, very trendy. I could quite easily have posted the entire collection but these are my favourite looks:

I'm such a fan of the panther-print details - especially when teamed with the adorable hats. There's a bit of a Versace vibe going on with the chain detail but Tisci has managed to make it look super modern rather than something you're dodgy next door neighbour would wear.

I noticed a fur skirt at Junya Watanabe and Tisci has done a mini-version which is think is gorgeous; the fur biker jacket is a cute addition too.

I have such a Givenchy crush and want to wear everything right now; if the sun hadn't made an appearance today I definitely would have been channelling sheer/fur chic.

I know a lot of people that have been waiting for Givenchy, so what do you think now it's here, worth the wait? I obviously think so! If anyone fancies

Paris Fashion Week: Comme, Celine and Junya AW11

I mentioned in my previous post about giving up slightly by the time Paris Fashion Week comes around which is terribly sad as Paris is usually the most exciting. It's a good job Paris is the most exciting otherwise I wouldn't be doing this post - Comme des Garcons is quite literally one of the best collections I've seen all season. I don't understand it and it baffles me beyond belief but I thought it was great nonetheless.

I absolutely adore the ruffled shorts and even though the half-jacket is a little impractical, I think it's stunning. You can always trust Comme to mix it up and do what every other designer is too scared to create; it's a whole new ingenious twist on androgyny.

Celine was another show I enjoyed but only for the jackets. There's always room for a tailored trouser but the coats were especially wonderful this season; the whole deconstructed element is something I didn't expect from Celine which made it all the more better.

The zesty orange number is very Raf Simons/Richard Nicoll but it's a beautiful shape and I love that Phoebe has kept it ultra simple - that sort of colour can't handle fussy details. The lengthy deconstructed coats are truly amazing. I keep seeing variations of everything I loved from the 90s but given a modern twist and these are perfect examples - I can tell AW11 is going to be a good season for me.

Last but not least, Junya Watanabe. I previously mentioned that I wanted to write about this show because I thought it was utterly bonkers - in a good way, of course.

Fur was a stand out aspect of Junya's fall collection and although I want to think it's a little bit vulgar, I really love it. The coats remind me of something hideous you would find in New Look or Primark but if you imagine Carine Roitfeld or Emmanuelle Alt in them, they suddenly become really great. Fur is an obvious choice for fall but then again so is black which was also heavily featured this season, I don't care because had I the money, I'd buy them.

Paris Fashion Week: Haider Ackermann AW11

I know it's really bad to admit this but by the time Paris Fashion Week comes around, I've completely lost the will to pay attention. This is most upsetting because Paris Fashion Week is usually the best; Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Viktor and Rolf, Comme des Garcons, Dior, Givenchy, Lanvin - the list of amazing designers goes on. Anyway, I haven't really had time to look through all the shows yet and Haider Ackermann was the first I looked at this morning. Convenience aside, I really love Haider's designs and although there were a couple of pieces I could do without this season (the wide belts and the cone-head hair), the collection was stunning.

My inherent aversion to colour makes Haider one of my favourite designers - I especially loved the jewel-toned glam-goth vibe this season. I mentioned before that grunge was going to be a big hit for AW11 and I still stand by that; grunge isn't simply about wearing Dr.Martens with a floral dress and plaid shirt anymore, it's about mixing silk with wool, wearing oversized knitted jumpers with flowing maxi-dresses and having that 'I don't give a fuck' attitude (even though we'll all know it took an hour to put together the outfit).

I particularly loved Haider's biker jackets and the floor-sweeping Matrix looking coats - I couldn't pull it off myself but know several people that could. My favourite pieces from the show were from the last couple of looks - neither of them were black (shock horror) but they just looked absolutely stunning.

That cropped white jacket makes me drool slightly, isn't it beautiful? I'm dying to post about Junya Watanabe but I'm about to go and have some lunch in London town so will do that as soon as I'm back. What do you think of Haider? Would you be inclined to wear a floor-sweeping leather coat or would you prefer to leave that to the cyber-goths of the world?

Paris Fashion Week: Hakaan AW11

This time last year (Friday 19th February, to be precise) I was sent to watch a show by little known designer, Hakaan. No one knew who Hakaan was so I was hardly expecting big things to happen. Oh how I couldn't have been more wrong. To say that it was bewildering to see Lara Stone, Natalia Vodianova and Natasha Poly at his début show in London would be a bit of an understatement. At the time, Hakaan caused a bit of a furore but mainly for his star-studded FROW and model line-up; this season, I have a feeling time has repeated itself...

The clothes are undoubtedly beautiful but I don't think his success is down to skill alone - were it not for the stellar line-up: Freja Beha Erichsen, Maria Carla Boscono, Natalia Vodianova, Karolina Kurkova, Natasha Poly and Anja Rubik, Hakaan might simply be another struggling designer. One gets the impression that Hakaan has friends in very high places, which is great, but there's only so far that monochrome-tailoring and pleated mini-dresses can take you.

Maybe I'm being too harsh; I was all over the début collection after all. I'd like to see some innovation and ingenuity if I'm going to track Hakaan's progress - not just a handful of the world's best models (although apparently, that helps). Do you think a world-class line-up is enough to propel Hakaan into designer stardom or does he need to up his game?

Spotlight: Lady Gaga 'Born This Way'

You've got to hand it to Lady Gaga because she's only gone and made another beautifully bizarre video, this time for latest single Born This Way. Released earlier today, the Born This Way video has got everything from graphic vagina references to dancing skeletons - I wouldn't expect anything less, especially as it was directed by the wonderful Nick Knight.

I know she splits opinion but I think she is a genius; no other female artist is making such great pop songs or brilliantly controversial videos and she deserves credit for that alone. The video also exploits the unusual face and shoulder implants that Gaga has been sporting during promotional tours - I can't say they're even remotely appealing to me but I can almost guarantee that scenesters around the globe were searching 'horn implants' as soon as they saw them. Weird.

Anyway, you can watch the full Born This Way video here; even if you don't like her music, it's worth a watch. What do you think of Lady Gaga? Are you a lover or a hater?

Milan Fashion Week: Missoni AW11

If you've been reading my Fashion Week coverage (or if you just happen to know that I like wearing black) then you'll probably be surprised to hear that I actually quite liked Missoni. In fact, I'm surprised that I liked Missoni. For starters, I stay away from colour as if it were the plague, especially pastel-shades that make candy-floss look tame. Secondly, I'm a 90s girl, not a 60s chick - I don't think that needs any explanation? Anyway, here are my favourite looks...

This collection shouldn't appeal to me, but it does. The floral chiffon, the oversized knitwear, the beautiful tailoring - it's all beautiful. Admittedly, I could do without the snakeskin biker jacket and tea-towel maxi-coat but no one's perfect, right? I think the reason I like this collection is because of it's candy-sweet grunge vibe; it might be colourful but the oversized jumpers worn over maxi-dresses and dark lips scream 'grunge'. Milan has been a little lacklustre until now and I really want to see more of this trend on the catwalk for AW11 because I absolutely love it.

Anybody else yearning for a grunge revival as much as me? Also, am I mad to like this collection, what do you think?

Milan Fashion Week: Jil Sander AW11

My personal style isn't exactly what I'd call 'polished' therefore I often struggle to relate to the Milan shows; however, there are a couple of designers that I couldn't miss (Prada, Fendi, D&G and Gucci - although this season I was supremely disappointed). Jil Sander is one of those labels that has minimal-chic down to perfection although maybe this is because Raf Simons is at the helm - either way, there's always something really great from every collection. Here are my favourite looks from AW11 that carry on nicely from last seasons simple maxi-skirts...

The first thing that I noticed were the black, pointed, heeled wedges which have been styled brilliantly with bare legs and unstructured dresses. I love the outsize silhouette, especially on the pale grey maxi and teal bubble-dresses - Raf is the master of making something simple extraordinarily beautiful and this collection is no exception. I've noticed quite a few low ponytails on the catwalk this season but I think it's a really difficult style to pull off unless you have the bone-structure of a skeleton.

This collection isn't for everyone but then not everyone could wear it - you need great legs and even better shoulders to not be drowned by these looks. What do you think, would you be able to wear these looks as they are or would you mix it up with black tights and a pair of statement boots?

Borderline Obsessive

I was really rather sad that I didn't see her at London Fashion Week (to be honest the only remotely exciting people I actually did see were Janice Dickinson and that dude from Dragons Den) and I still haven't recovered from the whole thing so I apologise for the cop-out post. The dress, the insanely amazing stacked gold platforms, the leopard jacket - I have serious wardrobe envy right now. Only Abbey could combine all those things without looking like a hooker, right?

London Fashion Week: Katie Eary AW11

Men's Day at London Fashion Week is like a whole other world: there's no fussing or flapping when it comes to shows because everyone just gets on with it. Today was a nice wind-down after a hectic few days and some of the menswear designers really stood out, especially Katy Eary. I love Katy for her insanely cool accessories and this season she didn't disappoint - check these babies out:

The New Era hats were one of my favourite details from AW10 so I'm really excited that she's bought them back again for AW11. Inspired by a twisted notion of the American Dream and Frankenstein imagery, Eary's fluorescent collection included soft leather biker gear, bright feathery knits, leather spiders-web t-shirts and her signature leopard print design featured in a variety of different forms.

For AW11 Katie also delved into womenswear which I'm super happy about. The green sequinned maxi-dress was absolutely stunning and had all the girls backstage swooning. Bonnie Wright of Harry Potter fame was enlisted as one of the female models and she did a great job walking in the ridiculous (but also amazing) heels. Her Twilight actor fiancée Jamie Cambell-Bower was in the front row to lend his support and he was obviously very impressed with his lady, how adorable!

As you can see, very impressed. I'm an accessories girl through-and-through so this show was like a dream for me. My favourite piece's were definitely the stacked Nike Air Force One's, the New Era hats and this little beauty...

How fun is that?! I'm kind of glad that Fashion Week has finished here in London because I'm absolutely shattered but as always, it's been a great experience. What do you think of Katy Eary AW11, will you give it a thumbs up or down?

London Fashion Week: Ashish AW11

I saw my first Ashish show this time last year and I've been hooked ever since; it was really exciting being back again for AW11 because I completely and utterly adore the label. Not only does Ashish make sequins edgy (as opposed to something that resembles an 80s disco-ball) but he makes such beautiful and playful clothes that I can help but dribble at the mere sight of them. I've not had a chance to catch-up with the rest of London Fashion Week yet but this collection is by far the best I personally saw all season...

I literally thought this collection was ingenious; I'd even go so far as to say that Ashish is the master of sequins - how great are the baggy skeleton trousers?! This seasons heroine (you'll love this) is "perfectly content to sponge off Mum and Dad, yet discreet enough to ensure her flatmates are unaware of her imminent succession to a thousand acres of grouse shooting and a castle that makes Balmoral look like a Portakabin". As I said, ingenious.

Ripped jumpers juxtaposed perfectly with sequinned trousers; great for dressing-down the going-out look and vice versa. I haven't seen the BFC showspace that rammed for a long while which made the whole experience rather sweaty/exciting - especially because of the whole "only one day left to go" vibe. I never thought I'd say it but I'll be glad to see the back of London Fashion Week for another season, I miss having a social life and regular sleeping pattern!

What do you think of Ashish? Have any shows really stood out to you from London or are you waiting for the big boys in Paris and Milan to strut their stuff?

London Fashion Week: Ziad Ghanem AW11

Ziad Ghanem has been the most surprising show I've seen so far this season. It threw me a bit, you could say. Not only was there a mix of female and male models (in full make-up and dresses, might I add) but the some of the dresses were out of this world. Admittedly many of them weren't to my liking but what's fashion if you can't have fun with it?

As you can see, the make-up was pretty terrifying but it also made it unusually difficult to distinguish the girls from the boys. I thought the face-paint slightly detracted from some of the clothes but all to their own!

This was my favourite dress from the collection - there's only so much avant garde one can take and this struck a great balance between being a bit wacky and being really quite beautiful. I can see this being worn by a Hollywood A-Lister on the red-carpet without looking too vampy because it's so stunning, no?

London Fashion Week: Olivia Rubin AW11

I used to think I was quite a dab-hand at photography but judging by the quality of these photo's, it's safe to say I'm not. I'd never been to Jalouse before and still think it a strange venue for a fashion show but Olivia Rubin made it work in her own quirky way.

Olivia is rather skilled in the print-department and as you can see from these (rather blurry) photos, she's not shy when it comes to colour. There were some really lovely pieces from the collection - a brick-print maxi skirt and a purple brick/floral print top were especially cute - but I didn't feel particularly inspired. I think Olivia has a lot of potential as her prints really are great but at the moment her clothes are missing that much needed va-va-voom.

What do you think of Olivia's collection? Being a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to fashion shows, I like to feel safe knowing that I'll see everything with ease, what do you think about watching a show in a nightclub instead of on a catwalk?

London Fashion Week:Eun Jeong AW11

I'm a massive fan of the good 'ol headscarf but there's only so many ways you can wear one until it gets boring. Enter Eun Jeong. Not only were the head-scarves very beautifully pinned but the collection was really stunning too. Do, excuse the poor quality of my photos - I was perched on a wobbly school bench behind a rather tall man therefore they're not as great as I would have liked.

These images don't do the scarves any justice - they really were beautiful and made me think 'how on earth am I going to recreate that?!' which is always a good sign. There were a lot of geometric shapes and gorgeous draped-back dresses - it's such a shame that you can't properly see the garments because they too were really crafted and wearable. Even though Eun Jeong wasn't originally part of our LFW schedule, I thought the collection was wonderful - one to keep an eye on!

London Fashion Week: Paul Costelloe AW11

Paul Costelloe is one of those designers whose clothes don't really appeal to me. With that in mind, not only were some of his dresses super cute, I now officially want a sharp, red bob. How insane are these wigs?

There were lot's of a-line shift dresses and easy-going prints which were nice but I wouldn't go so far as to say that they were boundary pushing. I still can't get enough of the wigs - they definitely made the collection a lot more appealing to me.

When working backstage, you usually bump into some that leaves you a bit gobsmacked. Last year the mere sight of Abbey Lee rendered me speechless and I think it's safe to say that Janice Dickinson's sudden appearance had the same effect for all the wrong reasons.

I really, really love this woman and think her obnoxious diva behaviour is totally fabulous, much to the dismay of many readers, I can imagine. Anyway, she was everything I expected her to be and she was really rather pleasant once you got past the whole 'look at me' vibe. Either way, I was speechless.

What do you think of the Costelloe wigs, do you love them or hate them?

London Fashion Week: Caroline Charles AW11

Apologies for the delay in posting, I have been non-stop since London Fashion Week began yesterday and have only just had time to upload my photos! Although I wasn't particularly impressed by Caroline Charles, I do really love these imagess from backstage...

The collection was a little bit too Marks and Spencer's for my liking although that's not to say the clothes were bad; they were just miles apart from my own personal taste.

New York Fashion Week: Karen Walker AW11

There must be something in the New York waters because for the first time in a long time, I'm really loving the collections. Last season I found it so so hit and miss and only really liked one or two shows but I'm really impressed by the standard for 2011. Karen Walker is someone I've never paid any attention to in the past but this collection, inspired by Britain's own Northern Soul scene in the 70s, is really quite wonderful.

First up, the hats. Most of you will hate the hats and I will understand if that is the case but I think they're great! I really adore the prints Walker has used throughout but this botanical number is particularly lovely; especially with the black vinyl sleeves. I predict that grunge will be massive for AW11 and most of my favourite collections so far have had dark and gothic undertones - great news for avid black wearers!

We've already seen it at Preen and Alexander Wang so teaming a glam (in this instance, pleated) maxi-skirt with a casual knit is definitely going to be massive later this year. There's something really nice about the combination of styles and it's really easy to imitate so don't throw any of your maxi's away, you'll need them again before you know it!

I am super fond of all of these looks and think that the vinyl and wool are a great pairing. This collection stands out for it's simplicity - there's nothing fussy about it and I'm positive that the high-street will be all over this style like a fly to cow-shit.

New York Fashion Week: The Row AW11

If you read this blog regularly then you'll know I'm a massive Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fan and their latest collection for The Row, shown yesterday at New York Fashion Week, is one of my all time favourites. Ever. Not because its the Olsen twins but because it encompasses everything I love about fashion - simplicity, glamour, quirkiness and most of all, wearability. It's rare that you really love every single piece from a collection which is why I'm gushing about The Row AW11, see for yourselves...

The leopard print coat quite literally made my jaw drop - I think it's just perfect. What struck me most was how much this collection was based on the twins personal style; you could see hints of Ashley in the minimalist layering and quirky tailoring and bits of Mary-Kate in the dramatic fur pieces and gothic dresses. It's a beautiful coming-together of two really talented designers that works brilliantly. The sharp tailoring combined with the slack of the fur is really something...

The collection was very much split into two different parts: colour and fur then monochrome tailoring. To me, neither outshines the other and I think many of you will agree with me when I say it's all gorgeous.

I don't usually gush so much over one collection - there's always at least one look from a catwalk show that I think is horrible - so please don't think this is commonplace. Considering they were in my favourite TV show as a kid (Two of a Kind, in case you were wondering), I guess it's not surprising that I've followed them so closely - but I'm glad I have. Is anyone else as taken with The Row or am I just getting overly excited about one collection?

New York Fashion Week: Preen AW11

Due to the fact that I'm a student with aspirations of working in fashion PR, work wear has never and will never be an essential part of my life. I once worked as a receptionist at a solicitors but I was sat down all day so that doesn't count. Anyway, you don't need much of an imagination to know that the words 'work' and 'wear' are bad news - they always conjure images of grey pinstripes and black wool, until now, that is. Yesterday, Preen made work wear sexy - quite a statement from someone who's only religious belief is wearing black...

I think these looks are super elegant and classy yet at the same time informal. I'm not sure what's happened to me in recent months but it seems I may finally be a colour convert - although I wouldn't wear any of these outfits myself I'd be massively jealous of anyone who did. The colours are divine and perfect for going from the office to a swanky bar - binary opposites are a match made in heaven.

It seems that Alexander Wang isn't the only one to mix and match unconventional fabrics - wool and silk are my new favourite 'hot couple'. If pairing a glamorous silk maxi-dress with a shabby knitted jumper is the major trend for AW11 then I'll be one seriously happy lady; it's like the modern take on 90s grunge but without Courtney Love.

I can give or take embellishment, when done well like Preen it looks great but when done badly you can run the risk of looking like a Christmas tree. It's the last look, however, that I'm head over heels for. Woollen jacket + simple shift dress + ankle boots x muted grey hues = perfection. I am literally in love with an outfit, forget having a man on Valentines Day, I'd just like Preen. Thanks!

New York Fashion Week: Alexander Wang AW11

Last season I was less than bowled over by Alexander Wang's SS11 collection, especially as I absolutely loved his previous season. I wasn't expecting much for AW11 but it turns out I was wrong to think he'd had his time in the spotlight because this collection is anything but boring. I adore it. The three main looks that I picked up on were statement jackets, sheer (grunge-style) and muted pastel hues.

I am a sucker for black clothes and these jackets are my idea of heaven. I love the quirky fur detail around the collar and sleeves and can totally see these being ripped off on the high street, they even make the colourful trousers appealing! It's grunge - Wang style.

Sheer is a fabric for the brave - you either need to be a goddess at layering or just have the body of a goddess to successfully pull it off. These super gorgeous tops make the idea of wearing sheer less American Apparel and more, well Alexander Wang. I also think the trousers are super - they really remind me of something Aitor Throup would do which is never a bad thing.

Again, these jackets are to-die-for - how amazing is Wang's use of silk and wool?! I think there's something super elegant about combining unusual fabrics and he's got it down to perfection. I love how this collection is very elegant and contemporary but at the same time referencing everything that was brilliant about the 90s; it makes me really quite excited for the next couple of weeks, anyone else?

I was going to post about the start of New York Fashion Week but I haven't seen anything that exciting yet. This has become a bit commonplace on Bang Bang You're Dead because I'm really rather fussy. Anyway, in its place, I wanted to share this super-cute editorial from an old issue of Vogue Paris with you; I'm a bit of a cat lover (yes I am aware of the negative connotations) and a massive Lara Stone fan, so this is my idea of editorial heaven...

I love the whole 'let's use a baby jungle animal' strategy to sell things; if I had enough money I clearly would have bought the entire Cartier collection just off the back of the adverts. Lara is so incredibly beautiful and I can't wait to see her and David out and about here in London; they were adorable after the Hakaan show.

If You Only Have Love For Your Own Race...

That's right, I just used a Black Eyed Peas lyric for a title post. I do, however, find it very apt in relation to this gorgeous editorial from Vogue Italia. Beautiful, isn't it?

When I look at these images, I don't think 'Vogue are really wonderful for using black models'. I think 'this is a great editorial' and 'I really love the styling' so what is it about using all black models that is so shocking/empowering/contemporary because forgive me for being ignorant, shouldn't we be past that by now? I think there's something very sad about using 'all black' models as a statement as it only highlights the inequality still evident in society. Racism is obviously still a massive issue and Vogue should have made this beautiful editorial about showcasing the clothes - nothing else.

Sadly, it seems, this still isn't possible, even in the open-minded world of fashion. What are you're thoughts on this subject? Also, having seen that incredible Jil Sander crop-up twice now (Drew Barrymore wore it on the red carpet and looked fab), I really hope an affordable high street version appears because I love it!

DIY: Leopard Print Nails

I'm obsessed with anything leopard print; I even have a leopard print duvet. Whilst I draw the line at leopard print hair, I'm never going to say no to a cheeky set of feline inspired nails...

These, ladies and gents, were done by yours truly. Not bad for a first attempt, don't you think? The colours were from Model's Own pastel collection whilst the lines were done using a Wah Nails pen and surprisingly, it wasn't as difficult as I thought.

If you've gotten creative with nail varnish recently I'd love to see what you came up with! Maybe you could suggest something for me to try next time?

I've always been a bit indifferent towards Love magazine; sometimes it's really great and then other times it's just really dull. This cover makes me especially unhappy because it has all the makings of a great cover but just completely misses the mark.

Photographed by Mert and Marcus and featuring the beautiful Kate Moss, this cover for the Androgyny Issue of Love should have been something wonderful. Instead I can't help thinking that the dodgy text and even dodgier hair make Kate less than extraordinary. The styling (aside from the quiff/mullet) is average but the photography is great, what happened?!

Spotlight: Martha Streck

You know the kind of girl that turns heads as she walks down the street? Well, Martha Streck is one of them:

I rarely want to be someone, but I definitely want to be this girl. Her street style is near on impeccable and she looks like one of the few models that actually smile these days. Obviously they're not my main reason for wanting to be someone but with legs like that I hardly need to justify myself.

Martha is in this weeks Spotlight because she's never really crossed my radar before and I think she's absolutely stunning. I love this image from Dior Couture this season and can't wait to see her over the various Fashion Weeks.

Paris Fashion Week is so close I can almost taste it. What designers/models are you looking forward to seeing the most? I really really can't wait to see what Sarah Burton produces for Alexander McQueen, something completely outrageous I hope! What do you think of Martha?

Couture 2011 Round-Up: Good, Better, Best

Forgive me for being insensitive to the current economical climate but Couture is supposed to be about beauty, wealth and decadence. I may be being a little fashion-blind but there were few collections this season that even whispered those words. Chanel was a massive let down for me so I don't even want to talk about it (I usually love Chanel, so that's saying something) and the rest, well, was rather uninspiring. There were, however, a few saving graces.

I'll start with the good, Valentino:

Valentino wasn't extraordinary but it's the craftsmenship of the pieces that stood out to me. They clearly have been beautifully made and constructed but sadly the bland colour scheme let the collection down a bit. I thought these dresses were particularly gorgeous - they're perfect for the upcoming Oscars - but otherwise I wasn't that bothered, sorry Valentino lovers!

Up a notch from Valentino is Givenchy:

Last season I fell completely head over heels for Riccardo Tisci's collection for Givenchy so he had a lot to live up to. I don't think 2011 packs quite the punch as 2010 but it is still undoubedtly a stunning collection. I love the flashes of colour and the sheer/feather combination and think that the white theme is really strong. I could see every single one of his dresses worn on the red carpet but these were my favourites. The first dress is out of this world, no?

For the grand finale and my personal favourite - Elie Saab:

If you click on the image it will enlarge and you'll see just how perfect these dresses are. Every single piece in Saab's collection was red-carpet perfect, I really couldn't fault him. Admittedly the dresses are a bit safe in terms of fashion but there's no denying that they're completely absolutely stunning. I'm usually not so disappointed at Couture Week but I think Elie Saab saved it for me, without him this post wouldn't be possible!

What do you think of Couture Week in comparison to ready-to-wear? Do you think it should have been more outrageously decadent or are designers right to present something representative of the economical climate?

Nails Inc Catwalk Collection with Diet Coke

On Saturday morning the doorbell went at 7am, usually I would have been horrified at being woken up so early but my postman was actually delivering these beauties - there's definitely worse ways to be woken up!

The Catwalk Collection is a collaboration between Nails Inc and Diet Coke and consists of four dreamy colours: Caramel, Denim, Plum and Heather Grey - any girl would be insane not to love all four. Along with the nail varnishes I was sent a Diet Coke bottle to customise and not being one to turn down an arts and crafts project, here is the finished product:

Living with three other girls means we have a vast collective nail varnish selection and they all loved the Nails Inc Catwalk Collection too (I'm currently wearing Plum on my nails and it does look rather sexy). The Limited Edition colours, worth £11.99 each are available from selected Boots store's now when you buy two 500ml bottles of Diet Coke - a great reason to start drinking Coke regularly if you don't already!

Freja is one of those models that never fails to impress because every single photo of her is campaign worthy. This editorial shot by Mario Sorrenti for French Vogue's February issue is so stunning I want it made into posters for my walls...

The Dries Van Noten and Martin Margiela images are so incredibly beautiful. It amazes me how she can go from rock-goddess to 70s babe to high fashion couture at the flick of a switch. Freja's prescence at London Fashion Week has been seriously underwhelming for, well forever, so I'm really really hoping she gets a good few shows this year.

What do you think of Freja for French Vogue? I kind of wished they'd included an Alexander McQueen piece because I'm still waiting to see how it'll be styled in editorials, anyone else?

We Could Be Heroes

Today has been a great day for superhero geeks. Christopher Nolan announced that Anne Hathaway is to play the role of Catwoman in the latest Batman instalment and then this photo from the new X-Men film surfaced.

OK so admittedly at first glance it just looks like the dishy James McAvoy is a homeless bum squatting in a mansion house but he is actually playing the role of a young Professor Xavier. X-Men: First Class doesn't look brilliant if I'm honest which is a shame because I love the other films but with a cast including Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Nicholas Hoult and Michael Fassbender it can't be that terrible, surely?

I know most of you won't give two hoots about X-Men or Batman, but supposing that you do, who would you have liked to see play Catwoman? Anne Hathaway doesn't strike me as the psychotic-cat-loving type but I'm willing to let her prove me wrong...

Look of the Week: Leopard Print

Leopard print is one of my favourite fashion statements. This gorgeous photo from a recent editorial in Elle Turkey is a great example of how to wear leopard print...

To me, this outfit is near perfection: casual yet chic. Not wanting to go all Gok Wan on you, I've put together a couple of looks incorporating a leopard print harem from Motel; what do you think?

These particular trousers are a little bold for my liking but you get the idea. Look 1 is my take on the Elle editorial - finding a decent parka proved rather difficult but they definitely are an investment, I've worn mine all winter! Look 2 is more of a going out look - a decent pair of black heels and leather jacket will never let you down. Look 3 would see you through day, night and even the office (depending on your tolerance for wearing 5 inch heels all day); seeing as fashion week is fast approaching, I think it's time I tried some of these looks out!

Is anyone else as excited about Fashion Week as I am? Obviously seeing the collections is amazing in itself but I can't wait to check out the model's street style this season too. What will you be wearing over Fashion Week?

Milan Fashion Week: Menswear AW11

It's no secret that I'm a massive Gossip Girl fan and it's also no secret that menswear doesn't get enough coverage. I for one love the menswear shows because not only are they a breath of fresh air from the women's shows, there's also plenty of eye candy to go round. Chuck Bass (Gossip Girl's resident millionaire bad-boy) is the epitome of Milan's luxurious menswear - just how great does he look in these outfits from AW11?

Hot off the Milan catwalks, I like to call these looks (from L-R) Chuck's business outfit, Chuck's ostentatious limousine scene outfit and Chuck's casual 'Nate' time outfit. Although menswear coverage is on the rise, I still wish it got as much credit as it deserves - how else are we going to know how to dress our billionaire boyfriends?!

Golden Globes Style: The Maxi

Don't get me wrong, I love a great Marchesa and Oscar de la Renta masterpiece but it was the maxi that killed it at the Golden Globes. There's something super elegant about a maxi-dress that requires a certain level of class from the wearer and these ladies are definitely pro's:

Leighton Meester in Burberry Prorsum, Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive and Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

Leighton's Gossip Girl character Blair would be so envious of this Burberry Prorsum dress she'd probably get her minions to sabotage it somehow. I love the romantic sleeves and cheeky little leg exposure although I'm not too sure about the hair and shoes - maybe she should have gone for a sleek up-do and less showy shoes? I absolutely adore dress though so she still gets a thumbs up from me.

Anne and Angelina are in a whole league of their own, I literally love these looks SO much it makes me want to cry or do something equally as heinous. Anne has really come into her own over the past few years and this Armani Prive gown looks stunning. Admittedly I could do without the puffy shoulder pads but the hair and minimal accessories are down to perfection. Angelina is pretty much a goddess. I've never loved emerald green more than I do right now - everything about this outfit is beautiful. There are few actresses who could wear this dress and look this great, Brad Pitt you are one lucky, lucky man.

Alexander McQueen Spring 2011 featuring Lindsey Wixson

This time of year is terrible for going out but great for fashion. There are more new campaigns than you can poke a stick at and Fashion Week (depending on which city you're in, obviously) is just around the corner. Understandably, this time last season the fash-pack were a little apprehensive about the future of McQueen without Lee at the helm. However, Sarah Burton's début in September was more than impressive. With this in mind, I'm actually quite disappointed by the Spring 2011 campaign...

I absolutely loved the collection and it gave everyone with doubt in their mind reassurance but this is just doing nothing for me. Maybe it's because I've not caught on to the Lindsey Wixson bandwagon yet but her doll-face ruins this for me. Sorry Lindsey! She's great in the whimsical Mulberry campaign but this is McQueen - where is the edge and glamour?! Maybe it'll grow on me but I'm definitely hoping that the other images are more impressive.

Gossip Girl Spoiler: BEWARE!

If your a massive Gossip Girl fan (like me), are waiting for the new episode to hit screens on the 24th (like me) but haven't read the books (like me, oh the shame) then look away now. These photos from the latest episode Damien Darko might just ruin it for you...

In my mind (taking into consideration I've not read the books, I'm sure it's a lot different if you have), Blair and Chuck should be together forever, Serena should stop being a slutty tie-wearing cow and Dan should just bugger off to college already. However, my mind and reality never really match up. But seriously BLAIR and DAN!?! The whole washing up scene at the end of the last episode was cringey enough but this is just terrible news. I'm hoping that speculation has in fact got the wrong end of the stick; how are Chuck and Blair supposed to be together now?

Whilst catching up on the latest season of America's Next Top Model (and procrastinating from dissertation hell) the postman delivered my latest purchase. Feast your eyes on these little delights...

I wish I could say I bought all of the above but the slinky trousers are in fact the only thing I purchased. Still, I'm quite impressed with myself. As you may (or may not) be aware, anything colourful or with legs scares me a little so these are quite a treat and also a bargain at £15! I am posting this because I have a conundrum and I know all of you wonderfully fashionable people can help me out.

How the heck do I wear them?! I don't want to mimic the 70s and yet I don't want to step into the realm of colour, it's a toughie. I figured the hat and fur vest would look nice but maybe that's a bit too safe...I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you think would look best.

For now it's back to the dissertation but please, if you have any advice - hand it over!

If you couldn't figure it out from the uncanny resemblance, this, ladies and gentlemen, is Elizabeth Olsen. Half of the inspiration for Mary-Kate and Ashley's eponymous fashion line Elizabeth and James, 21 year old Elizabeth is a talent in her own right. Having inherited the twins beautiful genes and worked her way up the studying/acting ladder, it's no wonder she was hand-picked by Chace Crawford for V Magazines 'New Hollywood' feature; isn't she gorgeous?

I can't wait to see how this year goes for the third Olsen (James will undoubtedly hit the spotlight any day now) especially with her new film Peace, Love and Misunderstanding coming out soon. If you want to know more, pick up V Magazines 'The Discovery Issue', out on the 13th January.

Chanel and Freja Beha Erichsen are a match made in heaven. The latest campaign featuring Freja, Stella Tennant and the gorgeous Baptiste Giabiconi makes me feel warm inside. I absolutely love the muted photography and don't even get me started on the clothes because they look amazing. Karl Lagerfeld has managed to make something that would ordinarily be a bit naff and cliché (palm trees and wicker chairs strike me as more Duran Duran than Chanel) into something beautifully edgy. Thas ma boy!

People's Choice Awards: The Good, The Boring and the Questionable

The People's Choice Awards usually springs a few surprises: people that usually get it wrong get it right and vice-versa. This year I wasn't over or underwhelmed by any of the outfits but I was definitely surprised at a few of the outfits choices. So here we have my version of the good, the bad and the ugly - only a little bit less exciting.

To begin, here's to the better outfits:

I surprised myself with these choices, mainly because I'm not a fan of Kristen's style and just not a fan of Taylor in general. However, although they all kept it simple (Kristen in Reem Acra and Taylor in J.Mendel) I think they all look really good. Kristen is famously terrible at accepting awards and generally looking comfortable in clothes but this dress shows off her insane legs; I haven't got much to say about Taylor other than she looks beautiful, job done.

Next, the not so great choices:

Cat Deeley used to be a children's TV presenter here in the UK so I was surprised to even see her at the Peoples Choice; even so, her dress is extremely blah. Nothing about her outfit is exciting, in fact I'm bored just thinking about it. It really upset me to have to put Emma Robert's in the boring category because she's usually such a promising young talent on the red carpet. However, this Dior dress is so underwhelming that there wasn't anywhere else for it, sorry Emma!

And now, the questionable:

I love Rihanna, I really do, but this Louise Goldin dress is literally doing nothing for me. I feel as though it should have been a mini and although I appreciate that she's gone for a lesser known designer, something isn't quite right. The whole outfit just confuses me a little, anyone else? Mila Kunis is another oddity, she usually dresses quite well but this J.Mendel number is just a bit off. It reminds me of a dodgy prom/cocktail dress although her gorgeous hair and shoes do redeem a couple of points.

Last but not least, you've got to salute Katy Perry. Who else could pull this dress of without looking completely weird?

I can't even begin to explain how much I love this - they're just so god damn cute! I seem to forget that models/designers are actually real people with real feelings so it's always nice to see a bit of love.

If you're a regular you'll know that Abbey Lee can do no wrong in my eyes an so naturally, I completely adore the new Tom Ford eyewear campaign...

Spotlight: Victoria Beckham

It's not everyday you see Victoria Beckham wearing a pale-blue cable knit jumper so this is a real treat. Victoria has graced the cover of British Vogue a couple of times, complete with her signature 'hand on head' pose so this cover for February's issue is a pleasant surprise.

The pale colours scream '90s' but I absolutely love it; the 90s is my favourite era, after all. It's a shame Victoria can't shake that whole 'stiff pout' vibe (I'm sure there's dodgy connotations there somewhere but you get the picture) because she's actually a really beautiful woman. It's not going to be the most exciting cover of 2011 but for those that keep saying she's boring just think: at least it's not Cheryl Cole and she does design some amazing clothes. When you think back to when she fronted the whole WAG revolution, it's a miracle she's come out on top; you only have to Google 'Victoria Beckham WAG' to see what I mean...

Anyway, apologies AGAIN for not posting for ages - I had the flu and am now cracking the whip on my dissertation, keep checking back though as I will get back on track ASAP! What do you think of Victoria's latest cover? Does she get a thumbs up?

Lara Bohinc for Turning Leaf

Things have been a little stressful at the moment, it's all deadlines this and essay's that, so when the lovely people at Turning Leaf invited me to a wine-tasting evening at The Assembly near Spitalfields, I couldn't say no.

Turning Leaf is a premium Californian wine brand and one of their wine makers Stephanie, was on hand to answer any questions (I'm known for turning into a bit of demon after drinking wine so I was glad to learn more about the stuff!). The evening was in aid of the Turning Leaf Lara Bohinc collaboration, how beautiful are these bottles?!

We sampled 5 of Turning Leaf's wines and considering I'm not a massive wine drinker, I really enjoyed each and every one. My favourite was the Turning Leaf Chardonnay - it had these lovely sweet aromas that I've never noticed in a wine before; it's amazing how much you notice when you know what to look for!

To accompany the wine was an array of yummy food's - a girl can never turn down a good chunk of Wensleydale. Below is just a smidgen of the tasty goods on offer...

The limited edition bottles have been designed by Queen of luxury Lara Bohinc and have been laser-cut - they look really impressive on the table and we all agreed that they'd make great candle holders when the wine had been devoured. If you're still stuck for present ideas then these would make a great gift for someone a bit trickier (think in-laws or your sibling's other half).

The Turning Leaf Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Edition bottles are both available to buy now from Lara Bohinc's store on Sloane Street for just £35. Whether you wanted to drink the wine or not, they'll undoubtedly become a collectable in their own right so snap yours up before they sell out!

Tis The Season To Be Jolly

Ok so Christmas is just a stone's throw around the corner (19 days, to be precise) and if you're anything like me you won't have even thought about it until now; don't get me wrong, I love giving people presents, but finding great gifts is one of the most traumatic things in the world. This year however, things are going to be different because being in London, I'm surrounded by amazing boutiques and gift shops - all selling perfect Christmas presents waiting to be bought.

Pre-Party Inspiration

This gorgeous photo of Carey Mulligan from this evenings Moet British Independent Film Awards got me thinking, what on earth should one wear to a Christmas party?!

Prabal Gurung has been worn by every hot-young-thing in recent weeks and this dress looks as though it was made for Carey. Unfortunately Prabal Gurung is a little out of my price range (OK so it's massively out of my price range) but I really love the simplicity of this look and think we should all take a leaf out of Carey's book this Christmas.

I've put together 9 going-out looks for the inevitable onslaught of festive parties and although I'm a creature of habit, mainly a LBD habit, I've experimented with a touch of colour. What do you think?

Topshop never fails when it comes to party dresses, cheap and cheerful is definitely going to be my motto this season and these outfits won't break the bank. Unless you've got superhuman powers then black tights are an essential this time of year and all of these looks are great with or without.

Matches, although on the slightly expensive side, has more amazing dresses than you can poke a stick at. I'm particularly fond of the Christopher Kane number and have been drooling over all of the shoes since I first clapped eyes on them; the ACNE wedges have been in my sights for quite some time now, early Christmas present to myself? I think so.

The OutNet has some great party-pieces but I wasn't so taken by the shoes and have instead replaced them with bags instead - a girl always needs a good bag, right? These dresses scare me a little because they're so colourful but I'd happily wear any of them because they're so pretty.

I definitely think its all about fun mini-dresses teamed with black tights for Christmas because everyone's so god damn depressed at the minute. If you want the designer label but not the designer prices, head over to Girl Meets Dress where you can find hundreds of gorgeous dresses to hire. You only need wear something once and they have a massive selection - perfect for partying! Check it out, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Daphne Guiness is Dead

Of course she isn't actually dead, but if you've been keeping track of her Twitter today, you'll have noticed a severe lack of posts. Guiness is one of a whole host of celebs (including Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Elijah Wood and Justin Timberlake) who have sacrificed Tweeting until $1 million is raised for World AIDS Day. I think it's a great idea, if each one of their followers donated just $10 or £10, then they'd reach the target in no time.

Terry Richardson is a bit like Marmite; you either love him or you hate him. I for one love him, nakedness and all. I've just stumbled across this editorial and of course, I love it; don't you wish you could trade the snow for a western saloon?!

Featuring the lovely Abbey Lee, Crystal Renn and Eniko Mihalik, Pussy West is one of my favourite Richardson editorials. The last two shots are definitely my favourite - mainly because they're so unlike his usual stuff.

It's a bit depressing being stuck in a very cold and snowy England when you see photo's like this. What do you think, do you love it or hate it?

Spotlight: Ke$ha

Ke$ha is in this weeks Spotlight for all the wrong reasons, mainly being that I think she looks like a complete fool. I think I must've missed the Ke$ha bandwagon because she literally looks so ridiculous, I don't even know where to start. The fact that I've never seen her on any 'Worst Dressed' lists means that she's either too bad for them, or she's not a big enough celebrity - I'm going with the former...

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for freedom of expression and all that but seriously? When she's not looking like a man in drag, she's looking like a try-hard 15 year old. The studded eyebrows, the fake 80s mullet, the medical looking glasses? It's overkill. It's as though as soon as someone says the words 'red' and 'carpet', she raids the dressing up box.

However, it's what Ke$ha doesn't look like on the red carpet that's got her here...

She looks almost good here, but I really do mean almost. The blue/gold lipsticks and tatty army boots ruin each of these looks, which is a shame because she's obviously a beautiful girl. Still, it's not my cup of tea. To be fair she is a recording artist not a fashion icon but surely it helps? If I've missed the point completely then please, enlighten me.

CFDA: Battle of the Gossip Girls

The annual CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Awards usually pull a good crowd, it is one of the biggest events on the fashion calender, after all. However, it seems that no amount of Gossip Girl styling could help the stars last night. I'm a massive fan of the show (mainly because I fancy Ed Westwick) and they usually all look so dapper, but these looks didn't do anything for me...

I would ordinarily say, "don't get me wrong they both look great", but they don't. Blake, in Chanel, needs a new (preferably black) bra, a classy up-do and a quick shoe swap with Leighton and then maybe she'd look great but sadly, she missed the mark. I love Leighton's Roger Vivier ankle-boots but the Prabal Gurung dress and hair aren't doing it for me. She suits super short mini's and statement hair and this look is just far too prim. However saying that, Leighton in this instance, is the better of the two.

Now for the boys...

I'm never going to pick Chace over Ed so we all know who I think looks better, I'll let you decide on that one! I wish Ed would take a leaf out of Chuck Bass' book on the red carpet, he'd look so much more handsome, if that's possible?

MOCA Gala: Chanel Queens

The MOCA Gala, held in Los Angeles last night was awash with trendy celebrities and free Chanel handbags. That's right, free bags. If every museum gave out free Chanel clobber, I'd be a complete history/art/science buff. And have a very nice wardrobe. Anyway, Kate Bosworth and Kirsten Dunst showed us mere mortals just how good Chanel looks on the red carpet (as if we needed reminding)...

I'm not a fan of colour so I absolutely love the monochrome and they both wear it so well, Kirsten's 20s vibe is stunning and Kate, well, what a babe.

Spotlight: Freja Beha Erichsen

The December issue of Vogue is easily my favourite of the year. I've already written about it once - that's how impressed I am.

However, it's the insanely beautiful Freja Beha Erichsen that I'm swooning over this time. Anyone with a fashion-tuned brain will know that Mario Testino is a photographic God and this image, as part of his Star Girls editorial, is nothing short of perfection; although mainly thanks to Freja. I only noticed the styling (which is rather average) after I'd pulled myself away from her face, that gaze is so intense!

It's been a while since I wrote about Freja and she definitely deserves this weeks Spotlight. What do you think of Freja in the December issue?

Only Girl in the World

Rihanna is having a moment. Again. Since the release of Rated R, she's been spotted here, there and everywhere looking nothing less than amazing with a wardrobe to-die-for. However, with the release of Only Girl in the World (which for the record, is amazing) she's been well and truly catapulted into the media spotlight and I can't wait to see her promotional outfits - if her MTV EMA's appearance was anything to go by, we're in for a treat...

I love Rihanna in Marchesa and she definitely rocked this ruffled number on the red (purple) - carpet. I love that she kept hair simple and non-fussy too because the dress in itself is such a statement piece; the cheeky side-panel revealing her tattoo is just the icing on the cake.

She's definitely got the whole 'military boot and feminine dress' look down to a T, how cute is that flowery dress? Her signature style is very much about mixing things up a little and she always pulls it off immaculately. What do you think of Rihanna's new song? It's pretty much become my go-to feel good tune, anyone else?

Spotlight: Emma Watson

Ok, so I know I go on about British Vogue being a bit shit because they cover rubbish celebrities that no-one cares about but the December issue looks amazing. I'm a massive Harry Potter fan and although the films can't compare to the books (don't even try and tell me different), they're still great; plus, December cover star Emma Watson is a total babe.

Isn't she just the cutest? I wasn't so sure of the pixie-crop to begin with but now I can't imagine her with long hair. Not only is she insanely beautiful, she's insanely rich and insanely intelligent; I feel rather inadequate right now.

I can't wait to read the full interview because she always comes across as a really great girl. Not one of these Cheryl Cole types that Vogue love so much.

Birthday Beats

One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.

Ok so thats a bit of an exaggeration - tequila generally doesn't sit too pretty with me (nor do spirits full stop) - however, the launch of the extremely glamorous Rhodes Bar at the Cumberland Hotel made me want to drink cocktails again, and lots of them.

Served in an array of scrummy cocktails, Patron was our bevvy of choice for the evening- all the classics have been reinvented with a tequila twist and to top it off, Gary Rhodes is in charge of food. Heaven.

I'm a sucker for a good mojito and these lovely tequila numbers didn't disappoint. The entire restaurant has been given a several-million-pound makeover therefore it's as swanky as they come, a definite recommend for a luxury evening.

It's my birthday today so for now, over and out!

It's Been A While...Lady Gaga

She disappeared off the face of the planet only to return wearing prime rump steak and now it seems she's been taking fashion advice from Miss Piggy...

London is supposedly the most diverse fashion city in the world but this is wrong on all levels (sorry gaga, I love you really). As separates the hair, glasses, bag (of course) and leather jacket are all rather lovely but the bad tights and hairy dress are a step too far.

Dodgy 80s throwback comes to mind. As do a flamingo and "that was so 2 years ago". I'm not really sure why she's in London at the moment but hopefully her style will resume 'icon' status when she leaves; what do you think, car-crash chic or just plain shit?

I wrote about Ashley back in May because her editorial for i-D blew me away and when I said Lara Stone had better watch her back, I meant it. She's already walked for the big boys and is scoring covers all over the show but it's her editorial in the October issue of Dazed and Confused that's caught my eye this time.

I've gone off Dazed in recent months but this issue is definitely worth a buy - as well as the lovely Ashley, they've well and truly re-vamped Daniel Radcliffe, with pretty impressive results. Love him or hate him, you can't ignore the fact that this is one of their most powerful cover for quite some time.

Will you be buying the latest Dazed? Having now proved that she can ace editorials and the runway, what do you think of the boob-alicious Miss Smith? I can't wait to see what she does next.

Last night something pretty special happened at Levi's flagship store on Regent Street...

In an industry where everyone is out for themselves (and lets be honest, the majority are) it's extremely difficult to establish yourself, to do what you really want to do. Through it's amazing online community, Levi's latest venture, Shape What's To Come, reaches out to everyone and anyone in need of a helping hand within the creative industries.

"Millennial women around the world can network and interact with peers and mentors to help them progress both personally and professionally in pursuit of their passions." Through the website, which launches on Monday, you can connect and collaborate with women who already have or are pursuing their dreams - an invaluable tool if you've got all the ideas in the world, but don't know where to start.

Six of the British Ambassadors, one of whom has an MBE (I felt extremely lazy after meeting them) got together to highlight the need for a portal such as Shape What's To Come. Pictured above with the lovely Annie Mac, all women have already realised their dreams and are on hand to help - whether you want to find work experience or set up your own business, these ladies will have it covered.

The evening also featured an exclusive performance and Q&A with the uh-mazing Shingai Shoniwa (above), lead singer of The Noisettes and Ikonika (below) - DJ, producer and now one of Shape What's To Come's Ambassadors.

The overarching message was that whatever your dream is, you can achieve it if your willing to work hard and make sacrifices. It all sounds very profound but it really is an amazing idea - think of all those questions you've always wanted to ask about the industry but never had the chance; this, I believe, is what you were looking for.

Back to Basics: Mary-Kate Olsen

It's been coming for some time, but Ashley Olsen move over - Mary-Kate has officially taken over in the style stakes. I didn't want to admit it, but she is definitely the more fashionable twin these days and their recent trip to Paris proves just that...

Sticking to what she knows best in black layers, MK came out on top. I know I've been talking of experimenting with colour recently but until there is a need to do so (summer isn't until next year, after all) I'm going to make like Mary-Kate and go head-to-toe black. Predictable? Yes. But you can't say she doesn't look smokin'.

There's a million and one black pieces out there just waiting to be bought - my winter coat included - but here are just a few pieces you could start with, I'm especially taken with the YSL heels...

Paris Fashion Week: Alexander McQueen SS11

I'm usually so consumed by Fashion Week (home and away) that I forget what eating/sleeping/having a social life is. This season, not so much. Yesterday evening, Paris brought proceedings to a close for another 6 months and I can't help but be severely underwhelmed by everything. Trust McQueen (or should I say Burton) to be my diamond in the rough...

Considering she had some rather enormous boots to fill, Sarah Burton really encapsulated what Alexander McQueen is about. Although she added a more feminine twist to the collection, the edge and ingenious were still very much there. The amphibious and decadent military elements from the previous two seasons have been re-worked for the modern Mcqueen woman, and I completely loved it.

Admittedly I wasn't so keen on the suits but the black leather and floral embellishment made Burton's début collection a winner. I'm already thinking about which leading ladies will be wearing these beauties on the red carpet:

What have been your highs and lows from this season and who would you like to see wearing McQueen's latest designs? It'll be interesting to see where Burton takes the brand, I hope she retains Lee's ingenuity and creativity because after all, that's why we loved him so much...

Paris Fashion Week: Anne Valerie Hash SS11

It's pretty depressing seeing so much flesh on the runway when it's pissing it down 24/7 and the mere thought of wearing shorts gives you goosebumps. However, thanks to Anne Valerie Hash (and Fendi, of course) I'm actually looking forward to next years summer wardrobe.

Don't get me wrong, I love the sun but up until now the winter wardrobe has always been my favourite. However, Hash has pretty much banged the nail on the head, the layering is there (an essential during winter) as are the neutral shades, loose-fitting shirts and super short skirts.

The hair and make-up are spot on too: messy ponytail + natural face = summer ready. Seeing as camel has been tipped as 'the colour' for AW10, you could get the essentials for next season now - just check out Topshop's range of goodies...

Whether you try it now or next year, make sure you're wearing enough layers to clothe an army. What have you loved/hated about this season? I'm still rather out of the loop but London seems to be the best out of all the cities so far, then again Paris is quite an opponent...

In my eyes, these girls can do no wrong. I know I go on about Vogue (even though the British version is absolutely pants) but the international editions are generally really good. This feature from Vogue Nippon is just too cute, although it does make me wish that they'd come out of hiding more often so I can steal their style again - I've been clueless in their absence.

Milan Fashion Week: Fendi SS11

The blogging hiatus is officially over! Following what I can only describe as the most hectic month of my life, I am back and it seems it couldn't have been more perfectly timed. London Fashion Week pretty much passed me by entirely (I attended one show that unfortunately happened to be rather rubbish, I'm looking at you PPQ), which is a shame seeing as I actually live here.

However, Milan has caught my eye, or more specifically Karl Lagerfeld has - it was only a matter of time before I was entirely seduced by Fendi all over again...

I'm not usually a colour girl, black suits me just fine and its been a great friend over the years, but if anyone is going to get me wearing the stuff, it's Papa K. The contrast between bursts of colour and sober neutrals is so perfect, plus those sunglasses are to-die-for.

At first glance, I wasn't all that taken with the collection, it looked a bit frumpy and for want of a better word, wrong. However, the accessories and minor detailing really do make it brilliant. There are some great pieces which I can see everyone worth knowing about wearing and I literally can't wait for these watches to hit the stores.

And if that wasn't enough to get me drooling, Karl threw a bit of Abbey in for good measure. On a more serious note though, how did I miss this change of hairstyle??! I know people have their reservations about the new 'do', many being that she definitely now looks like a crack addict, but I love it. Of course.

Does Fendi make you weak at the knees? Also, are you for or against Abbey's hair, it's sort of strange seeing her so pale but I'll get used to it, roll on Chanel...
